Miscellaneous Information:

Services for students with autism in the Upper Canada District School Board are coordinated through the Autism ABA Coordinators. UCDSB offers inclusive settings for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Students receive support from a team which includes their teacher(s), the Learning Resource Coach, the Principal and the Student Engagement Teacher (SET) through the School Support Team Process (SST). Depending on student need this may be expanded to include the Behaviourist, the Speech Pathologist, the Autism ABA Coordinator, the Chief Psychologist and community partners. The schools facilitate transition planning for students at all levels of transitions -pre-school to school, grade to grade, elementary to secondary and from secondary to post secondary or the world of work.

The Student Engagement Teachers provide program and IEP development support and consultation in Families of Schools. The Autism ABA Coordinators coordinate training in specific areas related to students with autism. E.g. training provided by system staff, Geneva Centre Training, the School Support Program for Students with Autism (SSP/ASD) at Pathways for Children and Youth and Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). The schools work with parents/guardians, families and community partners to help them understand the services that the UCDSB has to offer children with autism, and to help them find the supports that will best meet the child’s needs.
